It is not recommended to use a custom night guard for teeth whitening. The night guard fits tight to the teeth and is trimmed straight across so the teeth whitening gel would not be effective. The custom made teeth whitening trays on the other hand are very thin, soft, flexible and are trimmed around the gumline for optimal teeth whitening results. The material used for teeth whitening trays allows the gel to disperse evenly around each tooth whereas the night guard will not allow the gel to evenly whiten each tooth.
